Growing exceptional cannabis is equal parts science and intuition. At Frost, every plant begins its life in our propagation room, where carefully selected genetics are started from seed or clone. Seeds are germinated in a controlled environment with precise temperature and humidity, and within days, the first tap root emerges and anchors into a growing medium of coco coir and perlite. Clones, taken from our mother plants, are dipped in rooting hormone and placed under gentle lighting until they establish a healthy root system. This first stage is quiet and unhurried, setting the foundation for everything that follows.
The vegetative stage is where the plant builds its architecture. Under eighteen hours of light, the young plants stretch and branch, developing the structure that will eventually support heavy flower production. Our cultivation team monitors each plant individually, adjusting nutrient solutions based on visual cues and runoff readings. We employ techniques like topping, where the main growth tip is removed to encourage lateral branching, and low-stress training, where branches are gently bent and tied to create an even canopy. This hands-on approach ensures that every plant receives maximum light penetration and airflow, reducing the risk of mold and promoting even development.
When the plants are mature enough, we flip the light cycle to twelve hours on and twelve hours off, triggering the flowering stage. This is where the magic happens. Over the next eight to ten weeks, the plants redirect their energy from vegetative growth into flower production. Tiny white pistils emerge first, followed by the gradual swelling of calyxes and the development of resinous trichomes that glitter under the grow lights like fresh snow. Our team monitors trichome development under magnification, watching for the precise moment when the ratio of clear to milky to amber trichome heads indicates peak maturity.
Harvest day is both exciting and meticulous. Each plant is cut at the base and hung whole in our drying room, where temperature and humidity are maintained at carefully controlled levels. We dry slowly over ten to fourteen days, resisting the temptation to speed the process. Rushing this stage destroys terpenes and produces a harsh, unpleasant smoke. Once the branches snap cleanly rather than bending, the buds are hand-trimmed by our team. We trim by hand rather than machine because it preserves the trichome layer and produces a cleaner, more beautiful final product.
The final and most overlooked stage is curing. Trimmed buds are placed in airtight containers and stored in a dark, climate-controlled room for a minimum of three weeks. During this time, the buds are burped daily to release moisture and exchange air. Curing allows chlorophyll to break down, terpenes to mature, and the overall flavor and smoothness to reach their peak. It's the difference between good cannabis and exceptional cannabis, and it's a step that large-scale operations often cut short. At Frost, we never rush the cure. The result is flower that burns clean, tastes complex, and delivers a consistent, enjoyable experience from the first puff to the last.
